Remember

Remember. You wanted to go back. Desperately. But you chose to remember all of it. How they hurt you, how they hurt the people you loved. The feelings you felt when you saw them standing over the body of the only person who had ever truly loved you, who had ever treated you right.

You step towards the door, and their voice starts to fill with fear, with desperation and anger and panic. You can’t tell if they’re begging or commanding you to stay, to step away from that door and to come back to them. But you don’t care. You turn to walk out of the room and then stop as you hear them say

“Don’t you DARE leave me.”

You walk back over to them. Look them dead in the eyes. See their smile grow as you approach. They start babbling about how you made the right choice, how they’re so proud of you, and you realize how disgusting it all sounded. How truly insignificant they were.

Without breaking their gaze, you reach into your belt and pull out a gun.

Their eyes widen and they stop. Silence. Finally, it was quiet. Then a gunshot, the final sound echoing through the silent room. You step away, and their body slumps to the floor.

You would remember alright. Just not them. Not anymore.
